The branches of Adam Kadmon are i:he worlds
fashioned from the Lights which issued by way of
his hair and his sense organs, and represent the super
visions that were fixed following the union of internal
and external Lights. Lights containing submerged ves-
vels inhabit these issuing radiations. Because they are
submerged, the vessels are rendered inactive and im
potent under the immense force of the Light. How
ever since the Lights are issued downward by way of
the vessels, they inevitably carry along with them some
of the substance of which these vessels themselves
consist, until eventually a vessel is fashioned in them.

The presence of characters (letters) points either
to the presence of a vessel or to the source of one.
Thus, in the Lights which bear the Name of 72 , there
is no mention of any letter whatsoever, for the type
of vessels that belongs there are completely submerged
in the Light. This absence of letters precludes any
mention of vessels.

In the Lights of the Ear of Adam Kadmon, one He*
is mentioned which becomes the general source for the
vessel to be revealed.

In the Lights of this Nose, six Alefs are mentioned.
This means that a vessel of a mist tenuous nature is
beginning to manifest. But all this is still only prepara
tory to its actual manifestation.

In the Lights of his mouth, four Alefs are mentioned,
for then was the coarsest most tangible form of the
vessel revealed. Moreover, as a result of the clashing of
the Lights outside of the Mouth, all twenty-two letters
are revealed; thus manifesting all aspects pertaining to
the being of a vessel. The return of these Lights of the
Mouth to their source, or their concealment, affects the
actual existence of a vessel. Nevertheless, the vessel is
only accessory to the Lights, in that it is one to their ten;
and they have the power to sustain and greatly illumine
the vessel by their strength.

However, in the Lights of the Eyes, there are ten
vessels, paralleling the ten Lights. In this case the Lights
do not have so much power to shine into the vessel
and to emend them, for here each part of the vessel
already possesses a strong power of dominion with which
to resist the purification imposed upon them by the
Lights.

Nevertheless, prior to the shattering of the vessels,
the Lights had not as yet abandoned them. But when
the shattering occurred, the Lights completely vacated
the vessels, causing them to break, and revealing their
latent corruption. Even after the vessels were later
emended, the original break remained. Until complete
emendation takes place, when all will be as it was prior to
the shattering of the vessels, (indeed, as though they had
never been broken), a literal Pandoras Box full of reptiles

will always menace man by hanging constantly behind his
back. The Kingdom will only be complete when the
perfect emendation is achieved, then a primordial inno
cence will once again pervade the world.

All these processes constitute the source of the con
ditions governing mans essential state, for he is composed
of two elements body and soul. When the body rules,
it counts as a defect for the soul, and the lack of emend
ation in the soul increases in proportion to the degree of
domination on the part of the body. On the other hand,
the soul achieves its elevation in the exact measure that
the body loses dominion. Under the present supervision
in which the body is given dominion the soul remains
debased. This condition exists in order that man be sub
ject to the evil yezer. But at the end of this era of choice,
the soul will be empowered to rise from its low estate to
triumph over the body, to purify it in successive stages,
until its transformation is so complete that the two may
unite as one.* At this perfect union, all possible bodily
defects will vanish. Illumined by the Light of the soul,
and utterly bound to it, the corporeal part of man will
finally return to unite with its source. This ultimate
communion requires a tremendous and awesome effort,
for here and now, in our mundane world, the body
dominates and is "master of the house while the soul is
in "a strange land. Moreover, mans corporeal nature
which at the very least could have been emended and

accessibility to the "evil inclination, man still has the free will to
choose his path of action.

freed from corruption, is now as corrupt as the beast in
the field. This condition has its roots in the state of the
worlds following the shattering. The descent, the shatter
ing, and the corruption of the primordial Kings pro
vided the source for the decadence and corruption in
man and in his deeds.

In his emended state, however, corporeal man
although his body will still function normally and retain
its dominionwill be pure, holy and similar in his func
tioning to the priests in the Holy Temple when they
partook of the sacrifices and fulfilled various divine ser
vices. This condition has its source in the world of
Points prior to the shattering, and it is this emendation
that will prevail at the time of resurrection. The body
and this source will then be in the same state, as they
were prior to the shattering. This condition implies an
enormous purification of the bodys corporeality. Yet
this is still considered to be corporeal functioning, for
the bodies would continue to inhabit the mundane world,
as this does not by any means involve the idea of total
regeneration of the world. That, says the sages, will only
occur at the elapse of the year 7000.

The second degree of perfection occurs when the
body begins to relinquish its dominance. That is, though
none of its powers will be annulled, it will be elevated
by the power of the soul, and the roles will be reversed:
Now the soul will be "Lord, and the body "stranger in
the land. Similarly when Moses rose up to Heaven he
did not lose his human powers, yet his behavior was no
different from that of the angels. Further proof of this
principle is exemplified by the Angels who came to

Abraham. They certainly did not lose their spiritual
estate, but they acted no differently from the inhabitants
of the land.

Moses 5 nature was corporeal, while that of the Angels
was spiritual; the partaking of food by the Angels, and
the abstaining from food in the part of Moses, are both
governed by the same principlenamely, that the indi
viduals were outside of their realm, and that they acted
in accordance with the custom of the new one without
forfeiting their own nature. So it will be during the
era of the years 6000-7000, when the world is still not
regenerated. There will be no need for any change in
the laws governing the body, but, the Creator, blessed
be He, will make wings for the righteous with which
they shall soar over the "face of the waters. The sanc
tity of the soul will sustain the weight of the corporeality,
so that the righteous will not be encumbered by material
considerations of the yet unregenerated world.

This higher degree of perfection has its source in
the Bound World (Olam Ha-akudim ), where there is
actually a vessel and therefore a body. But here the body
is carried and sustained by the power of the extended
Lights which are "master of the house wherein the
single vessel (containing all the vessels of the Bound
World) is the transient guest.

The regeneration of the whole world will follow
this cycle. Then the body will lose its nature, and its
defects will vanish, leaving the soul itself to rule. First
it will be necessary for the body to relinquish its crudest
state, to remain within the realm of the world of the
Nose. Here where there are only six Alefs, it will wait

until it gradually begins to lose even its finer traits.
Only the general source of bodily forces, wherein there
is no subdivision into particular powers, will remain with
it. For it is a prevailing rule that in all things there is
the general (which is the source) and the particular
(the branch). This higher condition in the world of
the Ear, which contains only one letter He ', will prevail
until the body begins to rid itself of even this degree of
corporeality, eliminating any further cause of darkness
to the soul. At this phase the body will be totally sub
jugated, no more than an accessory to the soul, which
will then shine perfectly in all its aspects. This condition is
apparently derived from the source corresponding to the
Light of the Hair which, to us, is entirely imperceptible;
for we can have no conception whatsoever of that place
wherein there is no origin of body.
